Here at EP Minerals and EP Engineered Clays, we have a unique way to kick off every week. One of our team members writes up the EP Way Fundamental of the Week and shares it with everyone in the company. It's always interesting to see how different people interpret our fundamentals, even though they're all variations on a consistent theme. We learn more about each other and see the fundamental of the week through another person's eyes, which is always insightful, given the wide variety of what our employees do. Our culture and fundamentals are what makes EP Minerals different than any other company. These principles guide all of us in how we conduct ourselves, how we make decisions and how we do business every day.

What’s the most important thing to employees? More than likely you said compensation. Well, that’s not the most important thing anymore. In a recent Gallup survey, 95% of employees said that having an engaging company culture was more important than compensation. And, with employees younger than 30 years old, the number was even higher. The Gallup survey also stated that “disengaged” workforces cost companies more than $450 billion every year. Bottom line: Building an engaging culture is critical to the success of any company.
So, how can you create an engaging culture at work?

Claudia Westphal from EP Minerals' Europe at Haydos animal rescue in Turkey
Where did you go on your summer vacation? Maybe the beach, the mountains, a road trip? For the past four years, Claudia Westphal, EP Minerals’ sales and export coordinator in Munster, Germany, has done something a little more noble on her vacations. She travels to Turkey to work at HayDos Hayvan Dostlari Dernegi (HayDos Animal Friends Association). “I got in contact with Haydos during my holidays in the Turkish Aegean Sea area years ago. I donated some money for it and then started donating my time,” said Westphal.

Every week, we celebrate one of our 25 EP Way Fundamentals. This week it's Fundamental #4: Make the customer your primary agenda. We maybe should have made that #1, since that's how important this fundamental is to us. To a person, we have a passion for putting the customer first. Every day.
We're different in how we treat our customers, different in how we work with each other, and different in what we do and how we do it. Apparently, our customers think we’re different, too. But in a very good way.

In the EP Minerals R&D Lab
In an average day, you probably come in contact with over 100 products that have been manufactured or processed using industrial minerals. Industrial minerals are defined as non-metallic minerals produced from natural sources. Science and technology are playing an ever increasing role in new product innovation in the world of industrial minerals.
Here at EP Minerals, we mine and manufacture products from diatomaceous earth (DE), perlite, and clays. These incredibly high-quality minerals are used in an extremely broad range of applications in every day life. Without these minerals, a vast range of products would simply not exist. Surprised?

Here at EP Minerals, we have some pretty incredible employees. Every day we see employees committed to our EP Way Fundamentals like Step Up, Deliver Results and Challenge Each Other to be Great – all to take EP Minerals to the next level. But once a year, we recognize our “unicorn” employees with the President’s Award, delivered by our President/CEO Gregg Jones. Unicorn employees are described as those employees that shatter expectations, raise the bar for everyone and are simply a joy to be around. Unicorn employees can literally take a business to the next level.
We’d like to congratulate our 2017 President’s Award Winners:
