"Make the customer your primary agenda." It's our mantra every day, not just today on Get To Know Your Customers Day. To a person, we have a passion for putting the customer first. Every day.

We're different in how we treat our customers, different in how we work with each other, and different in what we do and how we do it. Apparently, our customers think we’re different, too. But in a very good way.

EP Minerals and EP Engineered Clays: Vigilant About Safety Every Day

handsHere at EP Minerals and EP Engineered Clays, we have a unique way to kick off every week. One of our team members writes up the EP Way Fundamental of the Week and shares it with everyone in the company. It's always interesting to see how different people interpret our fundamentals, even though they're all variations on a consistent theme. We learn more about each other and see the fundamental of the week through another person's eyes, which is always insightful, given the wide variety of what our employees do.  Our culture and fundamentals are what makes EP Minerals different than any other company. These principles guide all of us in how we conduct ourselves, how we make decisions and how we do business every day.

What’s the most important thing to employees? More than likely you said compensation. Well, that’s not the most important thing anymore. In a recent Gallup survey, 95% of employees said that having an engaging company culture was more important than compensation. And, with employees younger than 30 years old, the number was even higher. The Gallup survey also stated that “disengaged” workforces cost companies more than $450 billion every year. Bottom line: Building an engaging culture is critical to the success of any company.

So, how can you create an engaging culture at work?

For the past four years, Claudia Westphal, EP Minerals’ sales and export coordinator in Munster, Germany, has done something a little more noble on her vacations. She travels to Turkey to work at HayDos Hayvan Dostlari Dernegi (HayDos Animal Friends Association). “I got in contact with Haydos during my holidays in the Turkish Aegean Sea area years ago. I donated some money for it and then started donating my time,” said Westphal.
