Grand Opening Ribbon Cutting Ceremony-U.S. Silica Millen, GA Plant
It was a big party in Millen, Georgia last Thursday. The U.S. Silica team was joined by Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp and Millen Mayor King Rocker for the grand opening and ribbon-cutting of a state-of-the art facility that will produce high-end industrial products to be sold across the United States and internationally.
“The opening of this facility represents how businesses see unlimited opportunity in our state, and how our jobs-friendly economic climate is attracting innovative, dynamic companies like U.S. Silica,” said Gov. Kemp. “We are proud these cutting-edge U.S. Silica products will now bear the ‘Made in Georgia’ label.”

A single magnified diatom
Diatomaceous earth, also known as DE, is a sedimentary rock found in large deposits worldwide and mined primarily in the United States, Mexico, Chile, Peru, France, Spain, Denmark, and China. Northern Nevada has several large, high-purity deposits mined by EP Minerals, a U.S. Silica company. The DE is developed into hundreds of products used around the globe by the world's largest companies.
The diatoms that are forming today - the single-celled plants that make up the diatomaceous earth - are truly the lungs of the earth, in that they produce about three quarters of the world’s new oxygen supply. See, DE is a really big deal!

The Nevada Mining Association this week announced the recipients of its 2019 Mine Operator Safety Awards. The awards celebrate Nevada’s mining operations that make an extraordinary effort to ensure all miners return home safely after every shift.
U.S. Silica’s EP Minerals’ Lovelock (Colado) mine took First place in the Non-Metal category. EP Minerals’ Lovelock is the world’s largest producing diatomaceous earth (DE) mine and has been in operation since 1959.

Earlier this week, we announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office had issued US Patent 10253493, entitled “Particulates having high total solar reflectance.” The patent covers solar reflective particulate composition used for U.S. Silica’s White Armor® Cool Roof Granules. White Armor durable white granules reflect the sun’s heat instead of absorbing heat and transferring it to the building below. Customer results indicate that at least 70% of solar heat is reflected with White Armor Cool Roof Granules featuring the patented particulate composition.
